Former presidential candidate John Edwards has announced he will endorse Barack Obama, another sign of the Democratic establishment coalescing around Obama.

Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, dropped out of the race in late January. Both Obama and Hillary Clinton asked for his backing but until now, he’s remained mum. As a White House candidate,  Edwards enjoyed the support of white, working-class Democrats, the same voters who make up Clinton’s base.

Earlier today, Obama won the endorsement of NARAL.
