Dr. King expressed a similar hope in his I Have a Dream speech. Almost half a century ago. Sigh.

Archaic, yes, but this is a coutry with millions of blacks whose ancestors were enslaved by the ancestors of millions of whites who talk about the Civil War as if it were in their lifetimes.

Words are pretty much meaningless when it comes to government and politics but who is going to do what is best for the citizens of the United States of America, should be the question. A crystal ball would be nice.

I’ve encountered your surprise about this before, usually from people (like you) for whom it’s not an issue and in countries (again, like you) that are more evolved than we are. I’ve said many times there are plenty of Dems who will vote for McCain or not vote rather than vote for Obama. Sad truth.

Equally sad is the anti-semitism that persists in this country, but we’re certainly not alone in that regard. Grrr.
